You would think that all those tax returns are being used for reinsulating. Not in the Lehigh Valley everyone is thinking about going solar or maybe one of those new geothermal heat pumps.

What most consumers don’t realize that their homes are using more energy than they need to. Most people think as long as they got insulation they have done all they can.

Right now the department of energy is recommending an R49 so if you have 6 inches of insulation you have a whopping R18. Not to mention the amount of energy you are losing thru air penetrations in the attic. If your insulation company is not air sealing you should continue to shop. Over 25% of a homes heat loss occurs thru air exchange.

So if you have 6 inches of insulation it is time to insulate and air seal you could save up to 45% on your heating and cooling. Don’t sound like much considering these window companies, and the shiny foils guarantee 40% savings.Everyone should replace there windows, get the shiny foil,a new furnace and  you won’t have any energy bills.

Reinsulation is a project that should be consider before any home improvement. You see a return on your investment sooner than any energy conservation measure, besides low flow shower heads, and CFL’S.

So come on Allentown,Bethlehem, Easton, Macungie we know you like doing your part, and saving money. Why not reinsulate and put an extra $75-$150 maybe even $300 dollars per month in your pocket. Reinsulation why not energy is not getting any cheaper.
